Nicaragua is among several countries that have expressed support towards Libya’s leader, Muammar Ghadafi—in exchange for some pretty substantial and interest-free loans, of course.
Nicaragua’s Daniel Ortega was the first to have spoken out in defense of and expressed his “solidarity with the Libyan leader through phone calls”.
I guess money can buy friends. When Gaddafi falls, these countries who have supported him will have to answer to a provisional government first, then an elected government. To support him now will have negative repurcussions in continuing relations with a free Libya.
One day at a time.
